Preparing for Year-End Reviews Before the Questions Get Asked

January 2026  |  Chuck Kitchen, Founder GENREV!™

How do you typically use the first weeks of the year to reconnect with your people and your customers?

Beginning January 2026: 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫-𝐄𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐀𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐝

Year-end board and owner reviews are approaching for most leadership teams.

Those conversations don’t test effort. They test understanding.

In the coming weeks, boards and owners will be looking to understand:

  • How results compared to expectations.
  • Where performance diverged from plan.
  • Whether those gaps were visible during the year, or only at the end.

At the same time, attention will naturally turn to what next year looks like.

Forecasts, plans, and assumptions for 2026 will be viewed through the lens of what just happened.

Ideally, the questions behind those discussions weren’t saved for year-end.

They were asked, monitored, and revisited throughout the year.

Late December is often the last quiet window to assess whether that discipline was actually in place.

How prepared is your team to clearly explain both this year’s results and the assumptions shaping the year ahead?

Something here resonate? A conversation costs nothing.
